ROSPA also offer training courses in relation to home accident prevention.  These are City and Guilds accredited so it is possible to gain a recognised qualification by taking a short examination a few weeks after the course.  “Child Safety in the Home” is a one day course designed to identify which children are most at risk and why; child development in relation to accidents; accident prevention in the home; and risk assessment in the home.  The course also covers in more detail the areas of biggest cause of serious and fatal injuries in the home – falls, burns, scalds, poisonings and fire.  The course will show effective measures, both behavioural and environmental, to reduce the risk of injury from these accidents.  Further information is available on the website or by contacting ROSPA Office, Belfast (details above).

Stop!

Are you expecting anybody? Do they have an appointment?

Chain!

Secure the door bar or chain before opening the door (For fire safety reasons door chains/
bars should only be used when
answering the door)

Check!

Ask for and double-check the caller’s I.D.

 Most callers to your home will be genuine, however

there are some who may not be. These callers are

‘Bogus Callers’ or ‘Distraction Burglars’ who may want

to trick their way into your home to steal from you. If

you are in any doubt simply check your caller out with their office.
